Q: How much will my video cost?
A: Each project we undertake is unique. There are many variables that affect cost; deadline, talent and music clearance. Until we sit down and talk about the goals and objectives for your video, it's difficult to determine costs. That's why we like to do a project assessment at the beginning to better understand its scope. When you're considering a video, give us a call to set up a meeting to discuss your idea.
Q: How far in advance do I need to contact Media Services?
A: Since we work on a first-come, first-served basis it's advisable to contact us early in your project's development stage. We'll do our best to work your project into our schedule. There are other options should you need a quick turn-around time.
Q: I think I want to make a video. Where do I start?
A: The first step is making an appointment for a project assessment. We'll ask a series of questions to determine your goals and expectations. Then we create a production proposal including description of your video's objectives, creative concept, outline of responsibilities and estimate of production costs. We can then address other specifics and determine a production timeline.
Q: Can you videotape in-service presentations, grand rounds or meetings?
A: No. Our role at BJC isn't necessarily to record or document meetings. We create custom, original programming. Our projects help impact employee productivity, patient education and customer awareness while supporting BJC's mission and values. We can assist you in videotaping these activities by supplying a camera and instructions. Give us a call and we'll see if we can help.
Q: Can I use movie clips or commercial music in my video?
A: In most cases, copyright laws prohibit us from using copyrighted film clips or music cuts.
Q: Does your department take pictures of birthday parties, anniversaries or other personal activities?
A: No. With an employee population in the thousands it's impossible to accommodate personal requests.
Q: How do I reserve AV equipment?
A: Our AV offices on both the North and South campuses have a variety of equipment for checkout. On the South campus call 314.362.5668, and on the North campus, 314.454.8669.
Q: Do you deliver AV equipment?
A: No. With the size of the campus and the number of AV requests received, it's impossible to deliver and retrieve AV equipment. It is the responsibility of the person who reserved the equipment to pick up and return it.
Q: Do you make video dubs?
A: Yes, we can duplicate your VHS or DVD with a few restrictions. If it's a copyrighted piece, you must have permission from the copyright owner to duplicate the program. There is a limit on the number of dubs we do in-house. If your request is for more than 10 copies, we can use our duplication vendor.
Q: Can I put my video on my laptop or desktop computer?
A: Yes. We can compress your video to an MPEG file for loading into a PowerPoint presentation.
Q: Can you convert VHS tapes to DVD?
A: Yes. If you find that you would rather have an existing program in DVD format we can convert it for you. Again, copyright restrictions may apply.
Q: Can you do live programming from an OR?
A: Yes. Through satellite, webcast, fiber optics or ISDN line. Call us for a consultation to discuss your specific needs.
Q: Our department wants to buy a piece of AV equipment. Can you help?
A: Yes. Call us to discuss what you're looking to purchase. We can identify the right piece of equipment for you and recommend a vendor.
